World Junior Championships getting to the Team event!

After the 17 Years old Egyptian Mohamed El Shorbagy took the World Juniors crown, the Championships keep going on with the team event. Starting with the pool stages - each pool being held at a different venue. “The idea of having the matches at different venues was unique and we hope, that it will be appreciated by all the Teams”, says Tournament director Michael Müller. After two days of pool action the competition reaches the knockout stage. In the first Pool matches all the favourites stayed on top. “Naturally we are delighted, that our Swiss Team had a good start and a victory over Italy”, Müller added.

Yuen Earns Quarter-Final Berth Junior World Championship!

Malaysian Ivan Yuen, a 9/16 seed, became the only surprise name in the last eight line-up of the World Junior Men’s Squash Championship in Zurich after beating Pakistan’s Farhan Zaman in the sixth round of the biennial World Squash Federation championship being staged for the first time in Switzerland. Maindraw complete - Opening Ceremony …

… welcome all the participants. The first and second round (in officially called qualification) has been played. 12 Players are gone through to the main draw which is now complete with 128 Players.

The opening ceremony took place in the big ball room of the Mövenpick Hotel. All participants - out of 35 nations have been welcomed by the Tournament director Michael Müller. A Special group of dancers from the organization “cool&clean” (Swiss national program for prevention in sports) showed an inspiring performance.

Junior World Championships have been started!

The Games have just began! Everybody was excited until at 11am the qualification rounds have been started. The qualification draw was made for 46 Players, but unfortunately Nigeria cancelled their participation yesterday night shortly. Please find the actual results here.

Gerüchteküche… Kommt das IOC zur Junioren-WM 08?

Es gibt Hinweise, dass das Internationale Olympische Komitee (IOC) die Junioren Squash WM 2008 in der Schweiz besuchen kommt! Da sich Squash zum zweiten Mal als olympische Disziplin beworben hat, wäre es durchaus denkbar, dass das IOC einen Eindruck über die Juniorenaktivitäten unserer Sportart erhalten möchte. Read more »

Letztes OK-Treffen vor dem Start!

Am morgigen Freitag wird sich das Organisations-Kommittee der Junioren-WM nochmals vor dem Start der WM treffen, um die letzten Feinabstimmungen vorzunehmen. Momentan läuft alles planmäßig und alle Beteiligten können den Start am 27. Juli kaum noch abwarten.

Aamir Atlas Khan Heads Record World Championship Field
Pakistan’s Aamir Atlas Khan has been nominated as top seed in the 2008 World Junior Men’s Squash Championship, in which a record 163 players from 37 countries will compete in Zurich from 28 July to 1 August. Read more »

The draw for the individual has been changed. Aaron Fyfe (AUS) is not seeded anymore, instead of him Matthew Hopkin (AUS) is newly seeded 17/32.
